Tax Credits

If you’re an employer looking for a tax break, Workforce Investment may be able to help.

  • Work Opportunity Tax Credit  – This program provides employers with up to a $2,400 tax credit per eligible hire.  Among those eligible are certain welfare, food stamp and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients; youth who live in areas designated as federal empowerment zones and enterprise communities; ex-felons; and people with disabilities.

  • Welfare-to-Work Tax Credit – This program provides employers with a maximum $8,500 tax credit per eligible hire for people who are long-term welfare recipients.

  • Deduction for Removal of Barriers (IRS Code Section 190) – You may be able to deduct expenses for making a facility or vehicle used in your business more accessible to persons with disabilities.

  • Accessibility Credit (IRS Code Section 44) – An eligible small business that pays or incurs expenses for providing access to persons with disabilities is allowed a tax credit.
